I just read a newspaper ad in the Tampa, FL, Tribune about a free seminar 7/20 at nearby St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. The ad read "We're now curing Atrial Fibrillation without open heart surgery". The ad says they use a cure that is called Micro-Maze surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that can cure A-Fib.without open heart surgery. The Dr's. are part of Cardiac Surgical Associates and claim to have performed over 2500 procedures in 2003.
What is also amazing is that I had the Maze by McCarthy at CC in March of 03 and never heard of this local treatment before. I am glad I had the Maze, open heart type, and have had no AF since, but it looks like the open heart method is starting to be replaced more and more by by less invasive methods. It also shows how information, even in the computer age, is not always as complete as we think. I certainly would have looked into this procedure if I knew it was performed locally.
If anyone needs additional info about the ad, or Tampa, you can contact me via E-mail. The tel. number to call for the seminar is 813/870-4747.
Hope this info helps someone!
