I was astonished to hear that you were send home after two days and with fever!
I was hospitalized for eight days and the first three days it was not even possible to go home.I was nauseous, could not drink, could not eat en could not walk and I was not quite 'compos mentis'.Even after eight days I was so weak that it costs me a lot of energy to get home. You must be very strong and the hospital very mad.
The pericardial effusion was just bad luck.It happens from time to time as a short time complication of open heart surgery. There is no one to blame.
My follow up is by the cardiologist and like you I saw the surgeon just once after the operation.Untill now my follow up was:
3 weeks after leaving the hospital to the cardiologist for talking, fysical examination and ecg, three weeks later bloodtests,x-thorax and echo and again three weeks later he called me to tell me the results and of course asked me how I was.My next appointment with him is mid-october,which is four months after my maze.
I think the more problems, the more follow up and it is your cardiologist who MUST give the answers!
Best wishes.
