Hospital visit again

Well I mis-named the subject. Should have been hospital 'stay' again; in fact five day stay this time.

On day six after my pva I experienced some what I would call uncomfortable chest pain on the surface of my chest. This pain would come and go and be more frequent some days more than others. I called Dr. Cheng who did my ablation in Houston and he said if the pain was not happening when I took deep breaths it was not related to the procedure. These pains would come and go for two, three, four seconds and then let up and then hit again. To make a long story not quite as long, on Saturday night April, 10, I experienced more frequent episodes and more frequent stronger pvc's as well throughout the night. This pain does not correlate with the pvc's. I can have pvc's and no pain or occassinally the pain will hit when pvc hits. Pain occurs when sitting doing nothing or standing or walking.

My wife took me to the ER in the wee hours of last Sunday morning and I stayed in the ER for seven hours and the cardiologist admitted me to the hospital where I stayed until this afternoon, Thursday, before being dismissed.

The cardiologist on duty started giving me Lopressor. The pvc's subsided and the pain eventually subsided as well into the afternoon. I have had very little since then. My cardiologist came in Monday morning and said I didn't have a heart attack according to tests and actually didn't have symptoms of pain that indicated anything heart related. He kept me off coumadin in case of a heart cath. He had scheduled one but canceled it and told me he just couldn't justify doing one.

I asked him about the possibility of my gall bladder causing chest pain and he said most definitely. He called in a gastroenterologist and since Tuesday they have been concentrating on my esophagus, stomach and today my gall bladder. Esophagus and stomach were clear, no ulcers or such, but gall bladder is full of stones. However, the gastro Dr. said my gall bladder didn't show any signs of thickening as it does when it goes bad or is not functioning properly.

Right now I will have to wait until Friday to get a report on a "HIDASCAN"(sp) where they inject radio active dye and watch to see how the gall baldder is functioning.

Have any of you all experienced something similar prior to or following maze or pva's?

Like I said previously, the pvc's had improved quite a lot until around five o'clock yesterday afternoon and they have been plaguing me since again. I don't know if maze would have been any better or not as far as pvc's are concerned. Seems if you have them prior to either procedure you continue to have them post procedure.

John, Carl, and Jack, I am glad all of you have been free from afib and all other arrthymias since you maze. I wish I could say the same. I can say that I have NOT had any afib since my pva. But I do have a good day or two without so many of them. Hopefully I will be done with them as well.

Glenn Camp
