Dave. I had the maze on Jan 12th 01 at the CC. I have had many problems post op but I think that I finely have all of them under control. I talked to my Dr in the O R to see if he could remove the vent before I left the operating room. To my joy I woke up in ICU 2 hours post op with no vent. I have been in the fire department for 28 years and have seen many vents put in patients. I did not want to wake up with this in me. I think it depends on how well you recover for the gas. Talk to your Dr. and let him know that you do not want to wake up with this in you. Good luck. Mike Johnson
