Osman,

I had my MAZE just about 1 year ago (8/8/01) by Dr. McCarthy (no relation!!!) and thank God each and every day for my new found freedom. I was hospitalized for 12 days because I became irregular a couple of days post-op which really set me back in terms of exercise, etc. I left the hospital in NSR and have been ever since. My cardio is very conservative and is slowly moving me off rhythmol. My only complaint about the clinic is that post-op you are followed by a cadiologist--and mine was NOT good. I did see Dr. McCarthy twice post-op and I would rather have had him making the calls. A few days of discomfort and some frustration is a very small price to pay to be free of the BLACK CLOUD that is a-fib. For me, the fear and anticipation of the procedure was worse than the experience. I had come to the point where I had 'hit the wall' and knew that there was no other choice...it's clearly a very personal decision, but I know it was the right one for me...Best Wishes to you!!
