Like Carl, I really enjoy your analysis, Steve and always look forward to your comments. I also learn so much from them.

I know that Drs. Cox and McCarthy have both mentioned seeing a lot of endurance athletes in their maze practices as has Dr. Cooper at his center in Dallas. But, it seems to me that at least part of the reason for this is that runners, cyclists, scullers or other endurance sports addicts love what they do and are the first to try to find a cure so that they can continue. So, who shows up at Dr. McCarthy's front door or Dr. Cox's or this website for that matter but people like you Steve, or Carl, John, Rob, me or the many other pretty active people that we hear from. The quality of life for us is important so we are willing to maintain it by having a maze procedure. The stats get skewed because the athletes are so visible in this arena. This isn't bad but it's something to consider when attempting to figure out where this malady comes from. I think that the epidmiologists need to get to work on this. Maybe, someone like Ralph Paffenberger who did the Harvard studies on exercise and a healthy heart. He's an ultra runner who is a wacky as the rest of us although I think Ralph is getting up there in age now.
