Pete,
Toprol is a beta blocker (like atenolol), it slows down your heart- and you- and one of the side effects is being cold. Before my maze I took atenolol and sotalol (another beta blocker) and noticed that my hands would be colder than normal when I did backcountry skiing. I just wore heavier mitts and dressed a little more warmly. When I was in the house, I consumed warm drinks, which warmed me up from the inside and was very effective. Also works well with winter camping. I still take 12 1/2 mg. atenolol, but I'm back to normal in terms of exercise and cold tolerance. It's just too low a dose to have much effect on those important parameters. Unless you can get off Toprol or get the dose lowered to below the no-ill-effect threshhold, my suggestion is to wear more clothes and drink hot tea. Hope that helps.
