I haven't had afib since 3 months post-maze. My cardiologist has wanted me to stay on atenolol just because I have a history of having a twitchy heart. I balked at taking a whole 25 mg tablet becasue of what it does to my ability to exercise at higher aerobic output, but both he and I are happy with the half-tablet approach. Whether it actually benefits me, I don't know, but I'm pretty certain it will do no harm.
I have had some flutter, but at this point, having stopped niacin, which was precipitating daily events, the events are infrequent and I can stop them within about an hour. My cardiologist said that it would be OK, with my good history with propafenone, to take a single 150 mg pill, which, with a little time and a short walk, converts me to NSR. I'm just waiting to see how much of a problem the flutter is before I see about going to Cleveland for a flutter ablation. My insurance company has said that they will cover it (if I decide to go and CC decides to take me). At this point flutter isn't much of a problem to me and I'm doing all of the things I love to do and couldn't with afib.
