In 2002, after researching cure options for afib and finding this website, I decided that a Maze was what I wanted and that CC was the place to go. I wrote a letter to Dr McCarthy summarizing my medical situation and my intense desire to be cured ASAP. His nurse called me a setup an appointment within 2 weeks! I then sent my medical records to CC. They scheduled me for a 3 day visit consisting of 2 days of tests/evaluation followed by the Maze on the third day if necessary. I told them that I would prefer to come back for the Maze the following month if they thought I was a good candidate for it. (I needed time to get my affairs in order). The nurse said that they typically setup the testing and Maze all together to save people the time and expense of making separate trips. To make a long story short, Dr. Hammer at CC decided in consultation with Dr McCarthy that while a Maze would work for me, they thought that I should consult with Dr Natale about a PVI or try some anti-arrhythmia drugs for a year and come back. After talking to Dr Natale and his clinical nurse, Michelle, and coming home and doing some research on the PVI, I went with the PVI. It was very successful for me and I am thankful that CC didn't do a Maze even though I literally begged them for it. For people with other heart problems or more challenging cases of afib, the Maze is the way to go. In my case, the PVI provided the easiest cure and CC made me aware of that.
