Hans, I would like to welcome you to the board, and please continue to keep us updated on your progress.
I had my maze in April 98, at the age of 64, and for some reason I think I did better than some. I was released from the hospital the 5th day after surgery, in NSR, and on no medications. The second night at home I had a vision problem due to a blood clot somewhere. I was put back in the hospital for 3 days to get adjusted to coumadin, which I had to stay on for 3 months. I have never had any more problems. If I had not had the small problem with the clot, I would of not been put on the coumadin.
Many surgeons treat their post op patients differently, but in my opinion, unless they still have some AF after surgery, the ones without medications seem to recover faster, and feel much better. Most everyone ends up in NSR. Some are more fortunate than others in the time and problems encountered.
