Patrick, I would read and take into consideration what Henry posted, but what he posted has reference to mostly by-pass surgery. I don't know if it should have the same weight in considering the maze or not.

I don't know anything personal about Dr. Saltman's skills as a surgeon, but I have had several E-Mail contacts with him, and I do like his attitude and the way he expresses himself. I think it sheds a good light on his mind set, and to me would be some indication as to his physical skills. (does that make sense).

Dr. Geiss who did my surgery back in 1998 had only done 30 some maze procedures before mine, and he did a great job on me and continues to have a great track record.

Some surgeons may be proficient in their field in a short time where another may do the same thing for some time, and still not be as good. I think you have to judge the surgeon from what you, yourself can find out about him, and rate him on how he comes across to you.

I would ask to talk to some of his prior patients, and he should not hesitate to do so. He would have to get permission from the patient, but this can be done in a short time.

Best wishes and keep us informed as to what you find out, and what you do.
