One additional thought on the catheter idea. Instead of a catheter into the bladder, you might inquire about a condom catheter. My dad was bedridden in his last years, and he had a condom catheter. The advantages are that you don't have the discomfort and abrasion of a catheter in the urethra, you don't have to go to a medical facility to have it put in and there aren't the time constraints on how long it can be in place. On the other hand, the condom catheter can come off if it's not put on well. Hope this helps.
