On August 20, 2003, I had the Maze procedure and prosthetic aortic valve replacement. In July 1999, Dr. Albert Starr replaced a worn out prosthetic mitral valve that he himself implanted in November 1970. The operation was a success and along with the mitral valve implant in 1999, he placed a tricuspid ring, dual lead pacemaker and performed the earlier version of ablation at that time (was unsuccessful).
I am happy to report that I am four months post-op with having a very successful Maze procedure! No more AF as of this date 12/28/2003. I can't wait for Spring to arrive so I can ride my bike again and go swimming again ... I feel so very fortunate to have had such a skilled surgeon as Dr. Jeffery Swanson, at one of America's finest Heart Institutes, perform the operation. I also thank God, family and friends for all their support.
