Carl,
I had to respond to you post. You state that you believe that there is a genetic connection for the predisposition for those that have AF. I whole heartedly agree and so have the doctor's I have spoken with. Let me also say that I have personal experience on this subject. My grandmother died from a stroke at the age of 54 when I was eight. Back then, I am not sure they even realized what the consequences of AF were. I realized that I have had palpitations all my life, really becoming noticable when I became a teenage. My daughter who is twenty, has had these palpitaions which became noticable to her in her early teens. But, being very aware of my heartbeat I noticed these "skipped" beats in her as an infant.
I can see the hand writing on the wall for her. She will need some type of "cure" in the future. I hope by the time she needs it, medicine will take this condition more seriously. Anyone who has worked in a hospital or had a family member who has had a stroke will understand the devastation it can bring.
I really do not care who fixes us, I just want a cure. If ablation will do it, great. If something in water works, even better. I just want to live a normal, active life without fear. Plain and simple.
I am sorry to be so preachy.
Jeanne
