Rachel: To what "rate of success of the Modified Maze" (that you don't believe) are you referring?
I concur that the risk of stroke and stenosis at a FEW centers and by a few physicians is much lower than in the past, which is what I thought I said. When there are as many of these ablation vets as there are Maze vets, the statistics upon which they are based may well be as good or better than those of the Maze, and as I said, given the ablation success rate at SOME centers, I would probably opt for that if the doctors felt that was the best choice for me. For someone needing any heart surgery and who has afib, the Maze is a no-brainer.

This forum is definitly NOT only related to the CCF, but more participants have been there than at any of the other "centers". The success of the vast majority of those enthusiastic posters may make it appear as though it is only CCF oriented.
My personal first, second, & third choices for where I wanted to go for my Maze were NOT the CC, but my insurance carrier, Aetna, would only approve the CC and Dr. McCarthy. I became a believer/supporter of that organization because of my a-mazing cure.
Sorry for mistakenly mis-identifying Dr. Natale as your husband's doctor, although it has been reported here that he is present and "orchestrating" much of what is going on in the cath lab as procedures are being done, and he may well have "had a hand" in your husband's procedure.
