Henry,
1. That article was presented at a medical conference (American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2003) and in the Nov. 12 issue of the AHA journal Circulation, and the attendants surely knew about the maze.
2. How could anyone compare the risks and complications of maze (open heart surgery!) with a catheter ablation.
3. My husband had an unsuccessful modified maze at CCF (Dr G), and an unsuccessful ablation in the right atrium, also at CCF (Dr S). After reading the latest story of Dave, I found it necessary to respond to your posting.
4. That paper was written by Oral and Morady, EP’s at U of M. See:
http://www2.med.umich.edu/pcdv2/index.cfm?fuseaction=provider.profile&individual_id=23566&um_department=U%2DM%20Cardiovascular%20Center
4. Professor Fred Morady is mentioned at The American College of Cardiology, (A Half Century of Highlights in Cardiovascular Medicine) that in 1984, Using transvenous catheter ablation, Fred Morady and Melvin M. Scheinman successfully ablated the posteroseptal accessory pathway in a patient with Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome. See:
http://www.acc.org/media/patient/chd/timeline.htm
5. To see the list of his 420 papers, go to the National library of medicine at:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=search&DB=PubMed
and search the PubMed for Morady F
6. Now you may understand why my husband chose to continue his treatment at the U of M EP lab with Dr. Morady. Based on the info mentioned above and info from other doctors, I think that Dr. Morady is one of the best EP’s.
Rachel
