I don't know what else I can add to everyone else's post, but for me it was also a no brainer. I didn't visit this message board until after my maze. I struggled with afib for 3 years with meds, cardio-versions etc. I had a bad mitral valve that had been repaired once, so like Nancy it was a no brainer to try the maze. My local cardiologist studied at Ohio State with Dr. Hammer so he was well versed on the maze. When he referred me to the Cleveland Clinic for my mtiral valve replacement surgery they did the maze. I am afib free, not med free. I take a blood thinner, cholestrol meds and cardizem for a rapid heart rate. I don't know your history, but if I had it to do all over again, I would not hesitate.
