Paul, the best of luck to you. I am also a runner and chose the maze. Mine was completed on January 10th by Dr. McCarthy although I live in California. At five months, I can run as far as I want - I just did 28 miles in the Sierra backcountry at 9,000 feet with no problems.

Choice of surgeon is pretty personal in that many of us who have had Dr. McCarthy tend to really like him. On the other hand as you've seen on this board, the follow up at CC hasn't been that good for many. It was fine for me.

Dr. McCarthy is one of the best heart surgeons in the country and he does know the maze. But, Dr. Brown has worked with Dr. Cox who invented this whole thing. Dr. Cox is a very accessible doctor who will help you in any way that he can. I know that he gave Mike Johnson, a fellow mazer, his home telephone number and cell number for follow-up purposes even though Mike had gone to Cleveland. I am very impressed with Dr. Cox's follow-up. You might call him up and see what he says.

Again, my best to you. Keep us posted.
