Choice of MAZE doctors

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with chronic atrial fibrillation. Like many of the folks who post on this site I am extremely active and run five miles every day etc.. The first sign I had was that I was slowing down and I just assumed that this was old age creeping on given that I was in my late ‘40s. However once I had the diagnosis and learned to recognize the symptoms it was clear that this had been affecting me periodically for the last ten years.

So now that I have tried a couple of medications with very negative side effects I decided to have the MAZE procedure at the end of August this year. First I tried to track down Dr. Cox and discovered that he no longer performs the procedure but teaches it. He has passed his baton to Dr. Brown at OSUHC and so my first reaction was to have Dr. Brown do my surgery. However as I look at the various Internet resources it appears that Dr. McCarthy at the Cleveland Clinic has the most practical experience with the various forms of the MAZE. So now I am seriously contemplating having Dr. McCarthy perform my surgery rather than Dr. Brown. I’m sure that they are both excellent surgeons but this is a major decision for me at this point. I would welcome any input from those of you who have experience with either doctor.
