Pat:
It was very good to hear from you. Sorry to hear that you are experiencing such a bumpy road on the way to a permanent cure. I feel very strongly that you are on the right road now and good things are going to happen. So many things go on before, during and after a PVA.....I assume that is the type of ablation you are going to have. All the testing prior to the ablation is pretty routine, with the exception of the TEE (Transesophogeal Echocardiogram)...checking for bloodclots. Tolerable, but not something I would want to do more than a couple of times. I'm sure you can get info on this at you local Dr's office. Let's see. After all the testing and prior to going to the ablation lab, they gave me a choice of catheter. The standard 4mm or the newer 8mm. They hadn't been using the newer 8mm very long when I was there. They had been having a lot of success with it due to the fact that it burns larger and deeper and cuts approx. 1 1/2 to 2 hours off the procedure. I chose the 8mm for those reasons. I did have some pain with the larger catheter, but they do keep it in check. They put me to sleep to insert the caths. 4 in total and also cardiovert you during this period. This takes about 1 1/2 hours. I awoke and stayed awake for the rest of the procedure. They keep you very nicely sedated during the remainder of the procedure. All in all the entire procedure lasted slightly over 5 hours. A stay in the hospital overnight, more testing the next day and home to Colorado the day after. I take Tenormin, Accupril, Lipitor and Lasix. I hope to come of the lasix in the very near future. A far cry from all the medications I was taking pre-ablation. My local cardiologist said that I should not even think of coming off all meds due to my 2 previous by-pass surgeries. I can't say enough about the CC and I would do it all again if I have to. I'm sure there are other things you would like to know. If so, I'll be glad to answer any and all. Take good care of yourself and keep me posted on events. Bob Wilczek, Colorado
