They used "fenyl" during my procedure. I was out the entire 4 hours during the procedure. I didn't feel or remember anything once they started the fenyl, but this is not the norm. In any case, if you feel uncomfortable during your procedure, let them know and they will increase the pain medication unless you have sleep apnea. They typically don't want to knock you out altogether because unconscious tossing and turning, snoring and especially the airway restrictions that occur during sleep apnea would interfere with the procedure. If you have sleep apnea, they will go light on the pain killer, but it is still quite tolerable based upon what another PVI patient who had sleep apnea told me when I was at CC.
