Hello Folks,
Just found out yesterday that my MAZE operation will take place on Tuesday, Feb 4th , in Auckland, Green Lane Hospital. My surgeon is Dr. David Haydock, a former student of the man himself, Dr. James Cox. Only four of these operations have been done in New Zealand, so this is a bit of a historic moment aas well. The news came suddenly and unexpectedly, even though they were past the due date on the waiting list. As many of you would be aware, I am somewhat afraid, since I am the father of six boys, and desire to yet lead them onward in this life.. But there is an overwhelming peace in my heart, with a confidence in God through Jesus Christ. Even though there is a quiet sense of not being under control myself, and that is hard for a guy who organises everything, and everybody. The thought of the chest cut and the heart lung machine are not that great either. Yet these are now fleeting thoughts and I am at peace.
Thankfully, my beloved wife of 28 years, is taking care of our little Christian School, while I am away. What a great thing to be able to experience personally the Proverb which says, “His heart completely trusts in her”. She continues to love me even though my AF has stood in the way of amorous activities ..- if you know what I mean.(Sounds like Homer Simpson.) In times like this you see the value of committment in marriage. She is a rock indeed. Same with my boys.
Thanks to Jack Drum for all his work. The irony is that I found out about this New Zealand doctor as a Canadian in New Zealand via an American. And a special thanks to Ed Wehan who always is full of encouragement, and yet presents all the options. And he does it with colour. Would appreciate your prayers.
Maybe I am dreaming, but in three months I hope to be back on the roller rink with my students, and whomping them. But God’s will be done.
I go into this operation having been made fully aware of the dangers, as well as the possibilities, and thanks to all who have presented the options.
