Most of these EP's and cardiologists think they are gods and have the answer to everything. I had the same run around. In fact, there is a very well known EP in Los Angeles who kept telling me to wait because and ablation cure was just around the corner. A year later, he said the same thing and also said when I was considering the maze, that if I did that he would drive down to LAX and tackle me to bring me home. He is still telling people to wait but I had my maze two years ago and I am cured and one happy camper. Another EP did an ablation on me which failed. That is why you get conflicting information and why a resource like CC or other institutions mentioned by others here are so valuable. Medications in general are not fun and eventually stop working leaving you years down the line and still with AFib. Side effects from them can be significant. On insurance, is there a reason why you don't have it now? A pre-existing condition? Do they know about the AFib? I had a high risk policy with Blue Shield of California but they covered my maze and let me go to CC. It cost me about $5,500 out of pocket with the deductable. Then, Blue Cross one year after my cure dropped my premium to normal rates which saved me lots of money. Try the Blues. Best of luck to you.
