Deniss: Georges Deheere, Dr. Cox's first surgical attempt at curing afib (and subsequently, about a year later, the first official Maze III recipient)has been doing well since 1987, and has posted here a few times. Perhaps he will give us an update.

As far as the person to whom you referred-perhaps they need a "touch-up" ablation at the Cleveland Clinic. I suspect that any heart or atrial "enlargement" MIGHT be the result of this person being in afib for a long time, perhaps without being aware of it, because it was not as pronounced as before the maze procedure.
I just had my first echo since leaving the CC 2 years ago with a successful maze. My EP and the technician both remarked at how well my heart was pumping. Compared to previous echos I have had, which looked like a maze of quivering jello, I was darned happy to see each pumping action, steady as can be.

I would go back annually for the maze if it would make me feel this good at almost 62.
