Dear Folks:
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your responses, information and warmth. You have been incredibly helpful, and I feel much better prepared to discuss my situation with Dr. Ali Massumi, Texas Heart Institute, tomorrow afternoon. Few people, (except those immediately involved) seem to know much about this procedure--including my internist. But I now know there are people (youse guys & gals) out there who do know, understand and are supportive. I can't tell you how much this means to me.

You have been so kind as to offer a great deal of information and encouragement. I can only imagine what it will feel like to be back in NSR. Just last week I was fearful of having the open chest Maze surgery. Now I am fearful that I will be told I am not a good candidate for it due to my lung situation. I am seriously considering going to the CC and am wondering if any of you had a need to consult with a pulmonologist along with Maze surgeons there? Do you feel assured that the cardiac/EP/medical/ surgical staff would take a comprehensive medical approach, i.e., take into consideration all aspects--as opposed to a myopic approach. I am most weary of having specialists treat me with medications for one problem without considering the effects this will have on another problem. I know you all know what I mean 'cause you have been there too.

I am still trying to digest all the information you have provided. Then I will be back with a number of questions. Thanks for being so willing to respond.
Beverly Crane
