Hi SuLynn,
My experience at St.Lukes was as positive as Randy's. It is rated in the top 10 in the nation for heart surgery. I had my operation in Sept. of 1999. I have not had AFIB since. I do get pacs and pvcs (I had these before surgery) and at times my heart beats fast (I take a beta blocker if needed) but no AFIB. The quality of my life has improved.
I did alot of research before having the MAZE surgery. My wife and I went to Georgetown, Washington D.C. and met with Dr. Cox who as you may know developed this surgical cure for AFIB in 1987. I spoke over the phone more than once with over 12 people who had the Maze procedure. All were happy with the results. None developed the valve problem you describe. Randy may have developed this condition without the MAZE but now at least he will not have the AFIB condition as before. I do wish you both the best for the future. John Gross
