I haven't posted lately, but read this board every day. I'm now 7 months post Maze (Surgeon was Dr. Millar at LDS Hospital in SLC). Thus far the Afib is history! (after suffering with it and all the lousy medications for it over a 20 year period).
However, I have had some episodes of Junctional Rhythm, where my heart beats a steady 100-102bpm instead of its usual rate of about 72 bpm. The episodes occur on average about every 3 days, and last on average about 25 minutes, starting and stopping on their own. The EP who is following me post Maze here in San Diego has decided to try Verelan (similar to Verapamil) for 30 days to see if this will stop the Junctional Rhythm, which he thinks might be originating in the AV node. If this medication does in fact stop the Junctional Rhythm, he feels that it will be a good indication of where the rapid heart beat is coming from. So, then he would probably follow on with an ablation to cure this condition, resulting hopefully in "eternal blessed" NSR, and no more medication.
I'd like to run this info by this incredible Maze board, and see what comments, suggestions, and recommendations all you wonderful alumni in the "trenches" might want to make. Don
