Rodger,

There's a great deal of misunderstanding about depression - even among professionals, including some physicians. Telling you to "get over it" just doesn't work. Like Kati, I've read about the effects on the brain of being on the heart-lung machine - if I recall correctly, it has something to do with air bubbles in the lines. Anyway, post-op depression for open-heart patients is quite common. I did not experience it after surgery, but that might have been because I take Zoloft every day and have for several years. Talk with your Dr. and tell him what's happening. If you need an anti-depressant, it's OK!! It's not a sign of weakness; it's just another ailment - but one that can easily be treated, probably by taking an anti-depressant for a short period. Lots of luck!

Terry
