Hello Rodger. Welcome to the board.
I am thankful that your Maze went well, but sorry that you have the depression. I had not heard much about this happening until just recently. The body goes through a lot of trauma on a surgery such as this, and I guess it could cause depression, and other complications.
I was in pretty bad shape with the AF and medication prior to surgery, I was depressed and felt that the maze was my only chance. After surgery I only had one way to go, and that was up. I did expect a cure, and when I found out that I was maintaining NSR, I was so happy and felt so good, I don't think I had any time for depression, and at 4 1/2 years post op, I am still on the high side.
I know after surgery and still in the hospital, I was thinking of how fortunate I was to of gotten the surgery and rid of the AF. It has been a life saver to me.
I hope you get feeling better and get your life as you want it, back again. Just think of all the things you will now be able to do, and not having to worry about the next episode of AF. It should be a big high, when you can throw away all your old medication and flush it down the drain.
Please keep in contact with us and keep us updated on how you are feeling.
