I've got little to add to the wise and "to-the-point" entries by Steve, John and others. However, I'd like to point out the pretty evident risk that comes from isolating and linking Afib problems to Aerobic excercise. If, for whatever reason, an enlarged heart is "blamed" to be the top explanation to Afib, a lot of people might come to the - in my view - erroneous conclusion that excercise is dangerous. The possible effects of this misconception are obviously worse than Afib itself, sort of. What we need today in general is more excercise, not less!
Also, more as a reflection, perhaps people who seek out "extreme challenges" (lika marathon / ultra running or just any competative sport) have a lot in common. Perhaps it's the underlying personality of the people who seek out these activities that in itself can explain the Afib and Afib related problems, induced by a "high hormone level lifestyle"? I assume that many of us, from what I've understood, persue pretty eventful and perhaps hectic lifestyles? This consideration should perhaps also be added to the overall picture?
Anders

Ps. And the fact that the heart is enlarged is of course in itself basically a good thing since it will over time have to work less (fewer strokes, less wear)...
