In your search to understand why some people live with A-Fib and others choose not to, I think you will find it is like anything else in life that causes people to re-act differently.
It appears to me that many MAZERS are proactive people.
Several who have had the MAZE did their own research and were self recommended to surgeons who performed the MAZE operation. Even in cases where doctors recommended the MAZE it was the patient that in trying to understand and cure his/her A-Fib was the one who initiated strong consideration for MAZE. This may change as MAZE becomes more widely understood and used.
