I may be stating the obvious, but I would look at the Cleveland Clinic web site and find the following link and focus upon "Who will benefit from the Maze procedure." http://www.clevelandclinic.org/heartcenter/pub/guide/disease/electric/maze.htm
I also am considering a procedure. While my electriophysiologists and cardiologist do not have the training to perform the Maze, I respect them and am willing to be guided by their opinion whether I need a procedure and/or should try a catheter procedure, first. The best thing might be to find an EP who is highly regarded, recommended to you by someone you trust and schedule a consultation.
