Dan, If you have to ask this question, you are very likely not ready for the maze.
Here is how I made the maze decision, which i did put off for 5 years after it was first offered to me.
I had AF most of my life. Medicated for it from the age of 35 to 64.
Spent untold hours in the physicians offices, and the ER's and in the hospitals.
Had 7 years of bad side effects (severe abdominal and back pain)from one of my AF medications, which none of the doctors, (including trip to Mayo Clinic for the pain), could dx.
AF episodes had become almost chronic.
So weak, tired and short of breath when having a episode, that my active life style was over.
Since my surgery in 1998 at the age of 64 I have regained my active life, and once more enjoy life. I have been AF and medication free for 4 1/2 years. Not bad for a 5 hr. surgery, and a month of recuperation.
Dan, this is something you have to decide for yourself. Others can tell you their experiences, and thoughts, but it all boils down to you deciding what kind of life you have and what you can live with.
AF is a progressive ailment, and your condition may permit you to live a life style that is acceptable to you at this time.
Best wishes Jack
