Troy: Welcome back...and don't "stay away" so long between posts!
If you have been reading posts in the months since your maze, you have probably seen a number of people posting who have experienced the same "higher resting HR" post-maze. This is not unusual, and is even to be expected, given that our hearts are not quite as flexible as pre-maze. It seems that most of us have taken many months or even 2 years+ to get our resting HR back to what it years ago. This seems to be even more evident in those of us who were aerobic or steady-state exercise participants before we developed afib. Twenty years ago, my resting HR at any time of the day was in the high 40s, but I was around 40, and swim training 4-6 thousand yards/day, five days/week. Today, at age 61, I no longer train, but keep saying that I am going to get back into it. My resting HR as I type is 70-72. With training and another 25 lb weight loss, I could probably get back to a resting HR in the 50s.
I would say that it sounds as though you are doing just great after this short period post-maze.
Keep exercising and your heart will become more flexible, as Steve has experienced, (probably no one on this board does his kind of workouts!). I believe his resting HR is still not quite to what it used to be, but I believe his rowing performance is about back to form.
Keep making contributory posts whenever you see one from someone who might benefit from your insights.
