I am 57, live in Palo Alto, Ca, have had af for 5 years and want to end it this year and restore my life. I am considering an ablation and maze, leaning toward ablation. Has anyone had an ablation done by Dr. Roger Winkle in Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City or Dr. Michael Lee in the Oakland/Berkeley area? I have an consultation with Dr. Natale who comes to Marin County hospital once a month but have to wait until December. I'm going to call Cleveland Clinic and see if I can go there instead to speed this up, but wonder if I can have just as good results with a local doctor. Mine is Dr. Winkle and I have an appt with him Monday to talk about options. He wanted me to join the Cardima Catheter study last spring that ablates the right atrium and is suppose to have minimal risk. I didn't end up doing this because it had only a 40 - 50% success rate and I'd have to wear a heart monitor for 6 months afterwards. I don't know if the study is over. Also has anyone used Dr. Gaudiani at Sequoia hospital for the Maze? I'm currently using 240mg of verapimal and failed Tikosyn earlier this year. I'm thinking of trying Tambacor to try to suppress this almost daily breakthroughs until I can have a procedure done.
