My husband Richard has just had the Maze procedure @ Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, MI. His surgery was on Thursday 8/8/02 with Dr. Brad Vazales.The surgery went well although he feels quite sore.He was up in a chair the evening of the surgery and is now walking the cardic unit.So far everything has gone well except for retaining some fluids which I'm told is normal.Richard has been in a-fib for at least the last 8 yrs and the meds had pretty much stopped working he had an ablation at the U of M in Ann Arbor, MI in 1999 and then a week later had a pace maker put in. His a-fib contintued to worsen until his Heart Doctor in Petoskey recommended the cox/maze with Dr. Vazales.So we've got our fingers crossed for a complete recovery and no more A-Fib. By the way Northern Michigan Hospitals and of course Dr.Vazales has been wonderful, nothing but the best treatment.
