The Maze definitely is CURRENTLY a procedure requiring a general anesthetic, and I believe the oldest poster here was 73 at the time of his maze last fall. He is back to work as a Professor of Medicine and taking "on call" duties.
Perhaps your mother might be a candidate for the newer ablation procedures now being done with very high success at the CC by Dr. Andrea Natale and his associates. Contact them to see if they might consider looking at her records. After all, she is "going on 60", which puts her in about the same age bracket as many of us! I really don't know if age would have any bearing on their decision if her condition is good. Perhaps Steve Giddings might weigh in on this question and provide a definitive answer.
