Sara, I just got back from skiing and running up at Lake Tahoe so I'm late in replying. Tell Dave not to worry too much. I think that most of us now a days incur AFib after surgery. Mine was at CCF on January 10th and upon leaving I went into AFib. When I got home, my cardiologist put me on Rhythmol which created problems for me. I then went on amiodarone which controlled the AFib but left me with flutter. The flutter finally left during the 7th week and I have had nothing but happiness since. I skiied this weekend and ran at 7,000 feet 13 weeks after surgery. NO AFib. No nothing!!!!
Tell Dave that what he is experiencing is more common than might be expected. It's not fun due to your fear of a maze failure but it just takes time for the heart to heal. It will work for him. He may need drugs but give it time and all will be well.
