Sara:
I had a brief (several hours) bit of AF on my 3rd night post op. The attending cardiologist at CC gave me Rythmol, 150mg 3x/day. I went back into SR before the second dose. I kept taking it until I went to my local EP 14 days post maze and he reduced it to 75mg/3x/day for a month and then eliminated it.
You will probably get as many answers as there are people who have had the maze. AF, the maze, and the various drugs all seem to affect us differently. About the only thing you will probably get agreement on is that most of the recoving maze folks who have been given large amounts of some of these anti-arrhythmic drugs have had worsening bouts of AF, which have subsided when the drugs were reduced, eliminated, or changed. Given your husband's great progress so far, I am sure he will be OK, but perhaps his DR might consider some coumadin if he is having AF.
Continued good luck.
