Hi-
I know I am new here still, my story I've already posted, but in summary.. I am currently 27 with recurrent SVTs-supraventricular tachycardia. First diagnosised while in nursing school when I was abt.19 my fellow students and instructors found it so needless to say I was the example in many classes. I like so many of you have failed so many drug trials whether it be side effects of beta blockers related to asthma or it would work a week or 2 then my heart would go right back to what some called flutter, but working diagnosis was always atrial tachycardia or SVT. So, when I was 20 I had my 1st EPS, which exposed JUNCTIONAL tachycardia @ rate of 150, needless to say I laid on that table for 6-8 hours while my EP doc was on the phone to docs all over the US, so they kept me in over the weekend and on Mon. EPS #2 with my first set of ablations were done with the Bundle of His. This kept me in rhythm for a few hours, so then we had to wait a few weeks for the heart to repair then off to University Hosp-Cleve. with a pediatric EP, because with junctional tach being most common in very young children. This was EPS #3 with several more burns landing me into complete heart block and a pacemaker, plus a collapsed lung do to difficulty getting a line in my neck. After all this I was having frequent runs of SVT, but it took me 2 years to get the nerve to go back because I had absolutely NO sedation for the 8 hour EPS and pacer placement that was done @UH -diagnosisied as inappropriate sinus tach, which led me to CC where EPS#4 a sinus node ablation was done, by the doc that will be doing Thurs. EPS-he is currently now @ an Akron hospital-he used to be the head of EP @CC. Now, I have a diagnosis of atypical atrial flutter, because the p-waves are sooo different from each other he says he can get the rate better, but as far as rhythm he does not feel he can get it I will still need blood thinners and I will probably not notice a whole lot of changes in my symptoms, but due to my other recent open-heart last Oct.2001 I may not be a good candidate for the maze. This afternoon, I spoke with the CC and they have advised me to go Thurs., while they are still reviewing my many, many records and I should hear from the no later than the start of next week. Plus, they want my current office notes and EP report.
So, I did not mean to ramble on, but it really helps sometimes!! You guys are alllll sooo great to share your stories, because if it was not for this site I would have NEVER, ever considered this procedure!!! Again thanks does not express even close to that gratitude I feel!!!!
My Love & Prayers are with you ALL Always-
