Henry, typically they will not give you additional blood during heart surgery. You do lose some going on and off of the by pass. That is why it take awhile for your hemoglobin to build back up after the surgery. If they had given you additional blood products during your surgery I'm sure they would have told you. The story I saw on the recent incident you mentioned indicated that they were able to track back to the original donor and identify everyone who had gotten any blood products made from the blood that donor gave. I don't recall that the virus was actually transmitted to anyone. I was impressed that they track it that closely.
