Henry: As Ed said-Great post AND news! Because of the "instant success" so many mazers have experienced, it is easy to get caught up in that expectation of "no problems, post maze". I was not aware that flutter or afib could come back post surgery, so I was a little surprised when afib came back on day 4, but left for good after a few hours of Rythmol. When flutter occured after 8-9 weeks, I was sure it was related to taking Zythromax for an infection, but I still had to be cardioconverted. No more problems for about 16 months.
I understand the psychological letdown, and everyone who has a maze or ablation should be aware of the possibility of flutter or afib after their procedure. I am glad you overcame the reluctance to go back for a "touch-up" and now can offer encouragement to others. Keep doing it, since you've "been there-done that".
