Dear Friends,
I had a maze (along with a mitral valve repair)done by Dr. Shaff at the Mayo Clinic May 20. I came home in junctional rhythm and a-fib began again and lasted for 2 weeks. I went back to the Clinic, was cardioverted and put on a 400 dose of the dreaded amiorarone until August 2. About a week after the cardioversion I was in sinus rhythm and feeling very good. It has now held for 3 weeks and even though I still have to get more energy back I am so pleassed the a-fib has stopped.
The plan is that I reduce the dose August 2 and try to ease off in 6 months to a year altogether. My question is, when I drop the dose am I likely to go back into a-fib? Has anyone got experience to share about easing off amiodarone? My goal, of course, is to be drug-free and the sooner the better!
Jack, in closing, I want thank you for this message board along with all the other mazers who offer their experience and advice. It has helped me immensly.
