By way of re-introduction, I had the Maze Aug, 2001 at Ohio State University Medical Center. I had had a-fib over 25 years and at 65 wanted to avoid coumadin. I opted for the Maze which was successful, though followed by pericardial effusion, staph infection, and pleural effusion. Plus, the Maze did not get me into NSR and so I continue in junctional rhythm to this day which fortunately has supported my active lifestyle. I have returned to good health over the 10 months since the procedure and for the entire period have had no heart meds prescribed. YEAH! I had a comprehensive cardiac evaluation three weeks ago and all was going well.

Then wham, I had about three days of palpitations that felt so much like a-fib again, but my heart beats were regular. The night of the third day the palpitations were VERY BAD and I was considering going to ER. Finally, after being able to fall into brief sleep, the heavy palpitations had subsided but I continued with rather heavy palpitations off and on for three more days. Then two days of normalcy and then wham, they started again today.

My cardiologist is suggesting these are PVC's. Since they have returned he is suggesting my wearing the Holter monitor for 24 hours followed by my wearing an event monitor which I can trigger when I feel the palpitations coming again so they can be recorded.

I had thought that after 10 months I was home free. Has anyone else had these occurrances? If so, what has been done for them? My cardiologist indicates PVC's can occur for no rational reason. Obviously I am trying to get a grip on these new surprising and disturbing developments.

Roger
