Sandy, my husband, Joe Robinson had the Maze procedure on 12-06-01 and immediately went into NSR. Five days after surgery we head back for the Carolinas where we live. Joe remained in NSR until 12-23-01. He got up and had trouble breathing- it hurt to breathe at all
and he went back into afib and his heart rate hit the ceiling. By the time I got him to the emergency room,
I thought he was dieing. Needless to say, we both were thinking that we made a terrible mistake having the maze at the CC in Ohio. He was diagnosed with post
percardiem and remained very sick and in the hospital for about a week. He had several cardioversions while
in the hospital but would go back out shortly after each cardioversion. Fortunately he went back into NSR
on his own and has remained so since December 2001 We were on an emotional roller coaster during this time, thinking we made a poor decision in having the Maze and
the local doctors here were saying "We told you so"
Their comments were negative as always regarding the Maze.
It will be 7 months on July 5th since surgery and Joe
is doing excellent- he has picked up some of his weight
and his color is so much better. He is a race stock car driver and has begun racing this year. He has won 5 0f 9 races thus far. He looks great. He was in chronic Afib continually for 3 yrs prior to surgery- he is 48 yrs old and is doing excellent now. He said
the post percardiem was by far alot worse than the surgery. It scared us so bad, when Joe could not breathe. I do feel that you will continue to improve
and want you to know that we will put you on our prayer list. Feel free to correspond with us! Keep the faith!
In Prayer,
Joe and Jackie Robinson
