Dear Friends,
I'm the one who posted "Three Post Maze and Having Problems." It's now 4 weeks post maze and he problems continue. Let me explain. 4 weeks ago I had a mitral valve repair at the Mayo Clinic along with the MAZE. Three days after the operation the heart went into junctional rhythm and then into a-fib. I was loaded with amiodarone and had a cardioversion. This put me back into junctional rhythm although traces of p waves were seen. I came home and in less than a week the heart rate was about l20 so I was put on 400mgs of amiodarone a day. I am a week and a half on that dose.
Yesterday my GP thought that indeed there was some sinus rhythm along with junctional rhythm and a-flutters. He reported this to my cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic who wants me to go out for another cardioversion next week. Here are my questions: How many cardioversions can one have and how close together can they be? What might I suggest if the cardioversion either doesn't work or doesn't stick? LIke verybody else, I want to aviod a pacemaker. Also I am going to need a cardiologist back in Connecticut where I live who has experience with post-MAZERS. Does anyone know anyone they can suggest. And finally do any of you more experienced MAZERS have any advice to share? Thanks. Anne
