I had at times a rapid NSR heart rate for the first two years after MAZE surgery and took 25MG of atenolol as needed. This medicine works very well in lowering the heart rate and made me feel much better. There were times when I took it daily. I am almost three years post MAZE and almost never have a rapid heart rate now. Exercise is a good thing....the heart likes it but monitor your heart rate and don't let it get too high and keeps tabs on your recovery rate. You will find over time your recovery rate will also improve.
