Dave,

I understand your not wanting to give up scuba diving. I have a-fib, and am on anti-coagulation therapy and have not had the Maze. My cardiologist has never suggested that I must give up scuba diving. He only said that I better not get bitten by a shark, since I will bleed as a result of such a wound. Is your doctor concerned about cuts and scrapes that you might incur when diving or is he concerned about something internal?

Recently, I got a few minor scrapes while hiking slot canyons in Southern Utah, and there was no problem as a result. I think that you just have to be aware that you must apply pressure to a wound for a little longer, if you are on anti-coagulation therapy.

Happy diving to you,

Bill
