Being 43 (39 when I went through with the Maze), I can easily appreciate your frustration and anxiety at the prospect of life long medication. Even though a Pacemaker might present a better option, it's far from optimal. I too was given this "option" first hand. Had I not moved to Stockholm, I had probably not known of the Maze. Today I'm really glad that I went with the Maze. I run and train freely, living the active life I always have. I think it's important to bear in mind that doctors are not created equal; not all doctors are fully "enlighted" and I therefore agree on the necessity to get a second opinion (or third if need be). From what I've come to understand, the Pacemaker alternative will not result in the same physical capability as the Maze might offer you. Good luck with your decision.
