I'm not sure if Harley's question has been answered, but then I'm not sure if I understand Harley's stated circumstances.
I THINK Harley means that Dr. Hammer @ the CC put him on Betapace and some other meds, with the intention of him dropping them all at 3 months, and now his regular EP is telling him to drop Betapace and take Toprol XL for "life". If that is correct (Harley?), I don't think his question has been answered, since I don't recall Harley mentioning having had an MI.
While I know doctors don't like being "second-guessed" (do any of us?), I think Dr. Hammer has likely seen a whole lot more people with Harley's set of circumstances than his local EP, who has probably just seen his first one--Harley!
I would contact Dr. Hammer to ask his opinion re: the change, as well as the "lifetime" use of Toprol XL. Perhaps he can provide some supporting data for his protocol.
Good luck Harley.
